Why we Calibrate
It is recommended that your Logger is recalibrated annually in order to ensure conformity of results and that the logged results are within specification. This should only be done by qualified personnel using specialised equipment, as an incorrectly executed calibration could introduce significant inaccuracy into your Logger's readings.
We recommend that any Loggers are returned to Acksen Ltd (or a qualified local contractor) for recalibration.
Manufacturer Calibration
Any Logger can be returned to Acksen Ltd for calibration as a charged service. We will calibrate and test your Logger and return it to you. All models of Logger are supported. Please view our website for more information and pricing.
User Calibration (Self Calibration)
We only recommend that you carry out logger calibration if you have the necessary expertise and equipment, Electrosoft will allow user calibration of most models of Electrocorder.
Equipment needed to accurately calibrate your logger.
List of equipment needed for Electrocorder Calibration |
For AC voltage channels, a stable AC voltage source, stabilised voltage and frequency. NOTE you must only calibrate at the designated frequency of that particular logger, 50Hz or 60Hz. Normally 230Vac is used for both 50 and 60Hz models. You will also need a calibrated bench AC Voltage meter to accurately measure the calibration voltage.
For DC voltage channels, a stable DC voltage source, stabilised voltage. Normally 60Vdc is used. You will also need a calibrated bench DC Voltage meter to accurately measure the calibration voltage.
For AC current channels, a stable AC current source, stabilised current and frequency. NOTE you must only calibrate at the designated frequency of that particular logger, 50Hz or 60Hz. Some models require 500Aac for calibration. You will also need a calibrated bench AC ammeter to accurately measure the calibration current.
For DC current channels, a stable DC current source. Normally +60Adc is used. You will also need a calibrated bench DC ammeter meter to accurately measure the calibration current..
For pyranometer input channels, you will need a stable broad spectrum light source, capable of 1000W/m and 2000W/m, normally 500W/m is used for calibration. You will also need a calibrated bench light meter to accurately measure the calibration irradiance.
To calibrate the Logger you must first upgrade to the latest version of Electrosoft, then follow the steps below.
- Connect the Logger to clean, calibrated inputs as necessary (e.g. AC Voltage, AC Current, DC Voltage) and set the required calibration values. Monitor each of the parameters with the bench meters, make sure you compensate for any variances.
- Attach the Logger to the computer using the supplied cable.
- Select the Calibrate Logger function in the Tools tab of the ribbon bar.
Now follow the on-screen step by step guide in Electrosoft.
At the end of the Calibration sequence, you may also print a Calibration Report for the unit, which details the results of the Calibration. Electrosoft will automatically add/update the Logger's entry in the Calibration Manager when the process is complete also.
If you are informed that your Logger cannot be calibrated using Electrosoft, then it must be returned to manufacturer for recalibration. Please contact Acksen Ltd for further information.
