Overview

The Electrocorder AL-2VA is a plug-in appliance power and energy logger for measuring voltage, current and energy consumption on domestic, office and light-commercial equipment.

Use it when the load can be plugged into a standard socket and you want to understand how much energy it uses over time. The AL-2VA sits between the wall socket and the appliance, making it useful for appliance checks, office energy audits and spot checks without opening distribution equipment.

Best for:

  • Plug-in appliance energy monitoring.
  • Domestic, office and light-commercial equipment checks.
  • Office or department energy audits.
  • Spot checks where a socket-based logger is easier than fitting current sensors.
  • Understanding appliance voltage, current, power and energy use over time.

Consider another model if:

  • You need to monitor a fixed circuit at a distribution board, where CT-2VA or EC-2VA may be more appropriate.
  • You need current-only monitoring, where CT-1A may be simpler.
  • You need three-phase power and power factor, where the EC-7VAR-RS is more appropriate.

What you get:

  • AL-2VA logger in the smaller 190 x 120 x 60 mm enclosure.
  • Mains plug and socket arrangement, USB lead, carry case, batteries, user instructions and free Electrosoft analysis software.
  • A plug-in power and energy logger for suitable socket-connected loads.

Set up the logger in Electrosoft, plug the appliance into the AL-2VA, plug the AL-2VA into the wall socket and start recording. When enough data has been captured, disconnect the logger, connect it to a PC by USB and use Electrosoft to view, save, export and report on the results.

Applications

Typical applications: The AL-2VA is intended for plug-in appliance and light-commercial energy studies where opening a distribution board is unnecessary or inconvenient.

What the AL-2VA records:

  • Single-phase voltage and current for socket-connected equipment.
  • Power and energy values for the appliance or load being monitored.
  • Minimum, maximum and average values over the selected averaging period.
  • Data for appliance spot checks, office energy audits and usage estimates.

Why constant sampling matters: many instruments only take periodic snapshots. The Electrocorder continuously samples throughout the averaging period, helping capture short events, changing loads and trend data that can otherwise be missed.

Recording duration depends on the selected averaging period. It can be used for short spot checks or longer appliance energy-use studies.

The AL-2VA can be used by anyone able to use the relevant plug and socket safely. The current range depends on the plug and socket type fitted, for example 13 A for BS1363 or 15 A for NEMA 5-15.

Features

When to choose the AL-2VA
Choose this model when the equipment is socket-connected and a plug-in logger is the simplest way to measure real appliance energy use.

Compare with related Electrocorder models
If the load cannot be plugged through the logger, consider CT-2VA or EC-2VA for circuit-level monitoring. For current-only checks, consider CT-1A. For three-phase systems, consider EC-7VAR-RS.

Key features:

  • Plug-in single-phase appliance energy logging.
  • Measures voltage and current to support power and energy analysis.
  • Useful for office, domestic and light-commercial energy checks.
  • Avoids opening distribution equipment for suitable socket-connected loads.
  • Constant sampling to reduce the risk of missing short-duration or changing load events.

Measurement note
The AL-2VA is intended for suitable plug-in loads. The maximum current depends on the plug/socket type supplied for the product.

FAQ

When should I choose the AL-2VA?
Choose it for plug-in appliance or socket-connected load monitoring where voltage, current, power and energy are needed.

Can non-specialist users fit it?
For suitable plug-in loads, yes. It is used like a plug-and-socket energy logger.

What limits the current range?
The current range depends on the plug and socket type fitted to the unit.

How is it different from CT-2VA?
The AL-2VA is plug-in. The CT-2VA is fitted to a circuit using a clamp-on current transformer and voltage lead.

What software is used to analyse the data?
Electrosoft PC software is used to configure the logger, download recorded data, view graphs, export data and create reports.
